Oreo balls, also known as Oreo truffles, take my favorite store-bought cookies and with the addition of a little (or actually, maybe a lot) of cream cheese and some melted chocolate, they turn into the perfect sweet treat or snack. Keep these Oreo balls in your freezer, and you can have some soft, chocolatey Oreo balls all year round.

For even sweeter uses of Oreos, why not make some Oreo Cookies ‘n’ Cream Buttercream Frosting? Or even some ?

Oreo Balls

The biggest problem with Oreos is that once you break open the pack and eat a few (haha, get it? A few.), they start to go stale really quickly.

By crushing them up, adding a good amount of cream cheese, and dipping them in some melted baking chocolate, you can transform a potentially stale cookie into a gooey, crunchy treat that you can snack on whenever you like.

For such a simple recipe, this yields incredibly tasty results and also makes a really great party food. If you really wanted to get fancy, you could even insert lollipop sticks when you freeze them to make something similar to a cake pop!

The Easiest Way to Crush Your Oreos

Turning an entire packet of Oreos into a fine crush seems pretty daunting once you first dump them all into a bowl. You are just going to get into a sticky, irritating mess if you try and do it individually with your hands.

The best way is just to crush all of your Oreos using a food processor in batches. Stop before you turn them into a complete powder, but make sure that each Oreo is completely broken down into pieces and the white filling is mixed with the cookie.

If you don’t have a food processor, you could use a rolling pin or, failing that, a really heavy saucepan!

Put all of your Oreos in the biggest zip lock bag you can find and smash them with whatever heavy object you prefer. Make sure that you press out all of the air first, though, because otherwise, you might burst the bag and get cookie crumbs everywhere!

Use Different Oreos For Different Occasions!

While this recipe uses basic Oreos, you don’t just have to stick to the ordinary; you could use any of the dozens of different types of Oreos at your supermarket.

You could use Birthday Cake Oreos for a birthday, or party-themed Oreo ball, or make it fruitier with Strawberry Oreos or even Peanut Butter Oreos!

Something to keep in mind is to avoid using double stuffed Oreos for this recipe, as the extra filling could make the mixture gummy and not work well with the cream cheese. If you only have double stuffed available, reduce the cream cheese slightly, which should help keep the consistency the same.

Enjoy and happy baking!

Try using a fork to hold the truffle when you dip in chocolate. Just lay the truffle on the tines and it makes it way easier!
